Samsung Galaxy Camera Review

Clicking pictures, scrolling slide shows, capturing moments, framing memories sounds like your way cup of tea then Samsung has launched the new product out of its pedigree smartphones. The talk is about the new Samsung Galaxy Camera introduced by Samsung based on the new genre of photo cameras. With this product Samsung is attempting to go out of the way to bring together two entirely different spheres of point-shoot photography along with the hyper connectivity of the smart phones. This may sound like a dream product for the sure success but wait before you proceed.
Hardware specifications

What may seem like a little unconventional in this product is its bulky looks in the sleek product market. With a large 4.8 inch touch screen to provide better handling and the capabilities to shoot this product is quite hefty on size factor. The width of the camera is over 5 inches across the body which is not quite slim. Adding an extra inch to the width is its 23 mm f/2.8-5.9 lens that gets around 3 inches long when extended. On the software and the electronics part the sensor size of Galaxy camera is 1/ 2.3” unit, that is far smaller than the available sizes in the market. There are products like Canon’s high end S100 which has bigger sensor size of 1/ 1.73” and is available at cheaper prices.  If you are impressed to hear the 16 megapixel sensor of the Galaxy, then remember that the sensor size is more important than the megapixel count.
Peripherals inclusions
Among the other electronics specification of this device there is removable 1650mAh battery for the best power support and you can go on a full round of photo session by charging it once. For the peripherals there is a Microsim slot, Micro HDMI port and slot for microSD card. But there is shortage of a full sized SD card slot that will force you to take the other available options for storage purposes. However the Galaxy Camera comes up with a 4GB onboard storage that is capable enough for storing around 1000, 16 megapixel pictures to meet the requirements of photo storage of customers. Apart from all these there is a single 3.5 mm jack for a microphone and headphones. The enormous screen size with the 720p LCD gives you awesome viewing angles and color reproduction which is a sole feature that is unmatched than any other Samsung product.
Handling
All these specifications and features do not actually help it to be the best choice for being used domestically. The reasons include the bulky lens size which is when drawn to 7.5x zoom or more make the camera to fall forward that makes it unable to be used on flat surfaces at higher zooming levels. You will need a tripod to place it at these levels. There is nothing that sort of features that sort of feature that makes it a total exclusive product but there are features that are at their best.
Scorecard (out of 5)
  • Features – 4
  • Performance- 3.8
  • Video and image quality-2.6
  • Hardware and electronics-3.5
  • Controlling-3.8
  • Totalscore-3.54
